Also Known as the West Coast Sea Nettle is considered a true jellyfish. It lives in coastal waters mostly around California and Oregon but can be found in Alaska and near Japan. They live near the surface in shallow bays in Fall and Winter while they live in large swarms in the open ocean in Summer. They are carnivorous and mostly eat zooplankton full of baby snails, fish, other jellies, and other things. They usually live around six months but can live for around eighteen months if there's lots of food and a lack of predators. They are prey to many animals including Sea Turtles, Sunfish, and seabirds like Northern Fulmars. The sting is similar to a bee sting and is not a problem unless you are extremely allergic. Many Sea Jellies, including the Pacific Sea Nettle, are rising in population due to lack of predators.
